Transylvania Regional Hospital Announces Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina 2018 Honoree

BREVARD, N.C. (October 21, 2018) – Transylvania Regional Hospital is proud to announce that one of our very own nurses was selected for this year’s list of Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina. It is always an honor for nurses to be recognized by their peers for their professionalism and practice and commitment to the health and wellness of our community, and because of its state-wide designation, this honor is particularly meaningful.

Transylvania Regional Hospital’s 2018 Great 100 Nurse is Joelle Cleveland, (BSN, RN, OCN). Joelle works in the Brevard Cancer and Infusion Center and has worked for Transylvania Regional Hospital for 15 years.

“We honor our extraordinary nurses for the inspiring work they do each and every day to help our western North Carolina community be well, get well and stay well,” said Michele Pilon, MS, BSN, RN, NE-BC, President and CNO of Transylvania Regional Hospital. “Joelle Cleveland is a respected nurse in our hospital, and we appreciate all she does for our patients, team members and our community.”

The Great 100 Nurses are nominated by their peers for demonstrating excellence in practice and commitment to their profession. Mission Health has four honorees that were honored this year at the October 20 banquet.

“At Mission Health we always strive to achieve our BIG(GER) Aim: to get every person to their desired outcome, first without harm, also without waste and always with an exceptional experience for each patient, family and team member,” said Ronald A. Paulus, MD, President and CEO, Mission Health. “Nurses are at the very foundation of our BIG(GER) Aim, and our Great 100 nurses stand out even from their esteemed colleagues for their leadership, compassion and impact.”

About Great 100, Inc.
In the summer of 1988, a Registered Nurse by the name of Heather Thorne, called together a group of Registered Nurses from across North Carolina to develop a plan for selecting and recognizing Registered Nurses. The recipients would be recognized for their outstanding professional ability and for the contributions they had made to improving the healthcare services in their community. Her dream, modeled after a program developed by Registered Nurses in Louisiana, was designed to promote nursing and to raise funds for nursing scholarships. Since 1989, the Great 100 has been able to award over $648,500 in nursing scholarships. Schools/programs of nursing education are selected via a rotating basis.
