Mission Health COO Jill Hoggard Green, PhD, RN Named by Modern Healthcare as a Top 25 COO in Healthcare

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (May 7, 2018) – Jill Hoggard Green, PhD, RN, Mission Health’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and President of Mission Hospital, has been selected by Modern Healthcare as one of 2017’s Top 25 COOs in Healthcare. This prestigious recognition, given by the leading healthcare industry executive publication is designed to recognize healthcare’s best chief operating officers, working in the complex healthcare industry who are responsible for delivering top results in quality, safety, efficiency and margin, all with focus on mission.

“Jill’s compassionate servant leadership and commitment to clinical excellence combined with her deep concern for our patients and team members are the primary drivers of her extraordinary success,” said Ronald A. Paulus, MD, President and CEO of Mission Health. “She possesses a unique blend of leadership skills, a deep appreciation of the needs of our western North Carolina communities, an intense focus on quality and exceptional emotional intelligence that benefit our health system and our patients every day. There is no one more deserving of this honor,” Dr. Paulus added.

Dr. Hoggard Green has been COO of Mission Health since 2011 and also serves as president of Mission Hospital. In managing the operations for a health system whose patients are older, poorer, sicker and less likely to be insured than state and national averages, the challenges can be extraordinary. Yet under Dr. Hoggard Green’s leadership, in 2017, Mission Hospital provided $21 million more in charity care (compared to 2016) while cutting system-wide costs by nearly $70 million. Dr. Hoggard Green has contributed to Mission Health being named a Top 15 Health System by IBM Watson Health for six of the past seven years and also led Mission Hospital to the designation as one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by IBM Watson for the twelfth time in 2018.

Prior to joining Mission Health in 2011, Dr. Hoggard Green received her MS and PhD in Healthcare Leadership and Quality from the University of Utah College of Nursing. Her professional history includes serving as an oncology nurse at Intermountain Healthcare’s LDS Hospital and later holding multiple leadership positions in patient care and quality improvement within Intermountain Health Care, Salt Lake City. Prior to joining Mission Health, Dr. Hoggard Green was the Regional Chief Operating Officer for PeaceHealth’s Oregon Region, part of a nine-hospital system based in the Pacific Northwest.

“I am truly honored to have been included among such an impressive group of individuals,” said Jill Hoggard Green, PhD, RN, Chief Operating Officer of Mission Health and President of Mission Hospital. “I’m grateful to have been recognized for my efforts on behalf of Mission Health and our patients in western North Carolina, but I’m also mindful that this recognition is the direct result of the dedication of all Mission Health team members who work diligently every single day to create exceptional patient and family experiences. Together, we are striving to reach our shared vision of providing the best care to our community.”
