BREVARD, N.C. (Dec. 15, 2017) – The Transitional Care Unit of Transylvania Regional Hospital earned a 5-star overall rating (out of 5 stars) in 2017, for the fourth year in a row by Nursing Home Compare on Medicare.gov. Only 12 percent of the nation’s nearly 16,000 skilled nursing facilities received this highest ranking.
Medicare.gov is the official federal government website managed and paid for by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The Medicare.gov Nursing Home Compare has detailed information about every Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing home in the country. All of the data found on Nursing Home Compare is available to the public.
The Nursing Home Compare star-rating system provides consumers with an easy way to search for nursing homes that provide quality care. The Nursing Home Compare star-rating system is based on 16 measures, which reflect, on average, how well nursing homes care for their residents. Information is listed for two groups of residents: 1) short-stay residents — those who spent 100 days or less in a nursing home, and 2) long-stay residents — those who spent more than 100 days in a nursing home.
