Mission Health Congratulates All Mission Health Partners Accountable Care Organization Members For Performance Among The Best In The Nation On Both Cost And Quality

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (October 16, 2017) – Mission Health today applauded the extraordinary work of Mission Health Partners (MHP), western North Carolina’s local Accountable Care Organization (ACO) comprised of more than 555 independent physicians from across the region, as well as physicians from MAHEC, Mission Health and Pardee Hospital.  MHP’s performance was among the very best in the nation according to The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 2016 Quality and Financial Performance Results.  Medicare ACOs are intended to improve quality and reduce costs for consumers by facilitating care among doctors, hospitals, and community organizations.  This year MHP did both, achieving a remarkable Quality Score of over 97% and saving Medicare over $11 million – despite having one of the lowest spending targets in the nation.

Ronald A. Paulus, MD, President and CEO of Mission Health, noted that “The definition of value in healthcare is embodied by Mission’s BIG(GER) Aim: to get each person to their desired outcome, first without harm, also without waste and always with an exceptional experience for every patient, family and team member.  This CMS release confirms what we already know – that patients in western North Carolina are receiving some of the highest value care in the nation.  I am incredibly proud of Amanda Gerlach, JD, Executive Director for MHP, and Rob Fields, MD, Medical Director for MHP, for their tireless leadership of this very important organization.  I’m equally proud of the extraordinary physicians who comprise the network and who fill the majority of Board seats on MHP.”

Mission Health Partners is a Clinically Integrated Network and Medicare ACO that currently serves approximately 90,000 patients, includes nearly 1,100 physicians spanning the 18 counties of western North Carolina committed to improving the health of our local population.  The MHP network includes every Mission Health hospital, every Mission Health clinic, and every Mission Health physician.

Jill Hoggard Green, PhD, RN, Chief Operating Officer for Mission Health, celebrated the news by saying “Mission is dedicated to the health of our community in western North Carolina, a community in which our leadership team and our caregivers both live and work.  We are proud to deliver care recognized by CMS as among the highest value anywhere in the nation to every patient, every single day, whether they are covered by Medicare or not.  It’s just part of who we are.”
